James Martielli

James Martielli, CFA, heads Vanguard Defined Contribution Advisory Services, which empowers institutional clients and consultants with tools and insights to help them make more informed investment decisions. Previously he led Portfolio Review, Asia, based in Hong Kong, where he was responsible for product management and development, capital markets, and product-specific client engagement for Vanguard’s Asia business. Mr. Martielli also served as a senior investment analyst on the oversight and manager search team in Vanguard Portfolio Review Department based in Malvern, Pa., where he focused on quantitative equity, managed payout, fixed income, and active balanced funds.

Before joining Vanguard in 2009, Mr. Martielli spent more than 14 years with SEI Investments, where he constructed and managed subadvisor portfolios. From 1994 to 2003, he developed and managed fixed income portfolios, which included a three-year expatriate assignment based in London. From 2003 to 2009, he held various positions in the firm’s equity team.

Mr. Martielli earned a B.S. in industrial management and economics from Carnegie Mellon University with university honors. He is a CFA® charterholder and a reading reviewer for the CFA Institute. He is also Global Committee vice chair and executive committee member for the Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association.
