A new Vanguard study finds recent retirees are more satisfied financially than preretirees think they will be. Resolving uncertainty plays a part, and more advice could help.
Anna Madamba, Ph.D., is a research analyst with the Vanguard Center for Investor Research. The Center conducts and sponsors research on investor behavior and decision-making among both individual and institutional investors. It also works to apply behavioral insights to real-world settings. The Center’s work will be of interest to a broad range of audiences, including investors, financial advisors, consultants, employers, the media, the research community, and policymakers. Ms. Madamba’s current research interests include retirement income and the distribution phase of retirement, investor sentiment and behavior, financial advice, and global retirement systems. Before her current role in the Center, Ms. Madamba spent 13 years in marketing research in the financial services industry. She earned a B.A. in sociology from the University of the Philippines Los Banos, an M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology and demography from The Pennsylvania State University, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Carolina Population Center.
